Books by Other Authors
In addition to Sesame Street books, Dr. Seuss books, and books written by myself, I have illustrated books written by other authors. They include both "trade" books, and "mass market" books, with widely varied subject matter, and published by a variety of different publishers.
Dogs Don't Wear Sneakers
It was an honor to work with writer Laura Numeroff. The manuscript came with no art directions, just the rhyming verse. The words were clever and funny enough to inspire some of my best and funniest drawings.
Don't Be Silly, Mrs. Millie!
This was the first of a series of four books about irrepressible, imaginative, and slightly eccentric kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Millie. These books are a lot of fun.
Have You Seen My Dinosaur?
This is a really charming manuscript, in my opinion, and it was a joy to illustrate. The boy is based on my grandson, Alex, and his mom is my daughter, Kristen. I just made up the dinosaur!
Horses: Trotting! Prancing! Racing!
What a joy to illustrate a book all about horses on such a nice large format and with such a high quality of printing!
Too Many Dogs
Too Many Dogs is silly, and wacky, and fun, and you can look for my little silky terrier, Scampi, running through the book like "Where's Waldo?". I dedicated the book to him as well as some other dogs I knew!
Too Many Cats
I loved illustrating "Too Many Dogs", and this was just as much fun! It was also selected as the best children's book of 2009 by the New Jersey Library Association! I had a lot of help from cat owners.
Mrs. Millie Goes to Philly
This is the second in a series of four books featuring kindergarten teacher Mrs. Millie. I actually went to Philadelphia to do research for this book. The boy in the green shirt is my grandson, Alex!
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Millie!
The fourth in the Mrs. Millie series takes place on her birthday. The boy in the yellow shirt is my grandson, Alex, and the girl in the pink shirt is my granddaughter, Bella!
Big Frank's Fire Truck
This was one of four "big truck drivers" series based loosely on "Big Joe's Trailer Truck", but written by Leslie McGuire. I had help from the Mortlake Fire Dept. of Brooklyn, CT, where I lived at the time.
We're Going on a Lion Hunt
The wide format of this book makes a great setting for the African plains and the fun of running away from a not very scary lion!
Pick a Pumpkin, Mrs. Millie!
This, the third in the Mrs. Millie series, was greatly aided by the fact that here in eastern MA, there are abundant pumpkin patches as well as corn mazes in the fall. It was nice to get Mrs. Millie and her class out of doors.
Big Mike's Police Car
Big Mike's Police Car was one of the "big truck drivers" series, and I was given a great deal of help by the Providence Police Department.
Big Cindy's School Bus
"Big Cindy's School Bus" follows in the steps of "Big Joe's Trailer Truck", "Big Frank's Fire Truck", and "Big Mike's Police Car".
